be a cooler pattern kicking in. update on your traffic with sal. steve, we have a big problem on the bay bridge westbound. two left lanes are blocked with an injury crash. and chp has issued a cig alert. this means they think it will be out there for a bit. traffic on the toll plaza is already backing up. it's jam packed. you can tell something is wrong because it's barely moving. you can see traffic moving better usually. the only thing getting back is the car reports of a sexual assault this morning. the suspect reportedly was armed with a box cutter. the only reporter at the scene right now is ktvu janine de la vega. we are going to her right now to get the very latest on what happened out there. janine. >> reporter: dave, police still have a thin description on the

suspect but he is still at large. you can see a police star in front of me. and there were officers around the corner. they have crime tape roping off this apartment complex. this sexual assault happened at about 4:00 this morning. a woman in her 20s told police that she was sleeping and suddenly show -- he held a box cutter up to her neck an an when they did get there they interhappen again there is a limited description so police haven't released it to us. they aring vest very to yo a

description see the back windows of the apartment complex? they say they found a broken screen on one of the windows. that is how he entered. and then police say he committed the sexual assault and then he exited outside the front door. i just briefly spoke with a neighbor of the apartment complex. her boyfriend who says that they are very shaken over there. we will continue to monitor this situation and talk to police as the morning goes on and bring it to you. reporting live from santa clara janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. in just hours oakland city leaders will remember the victim of a deadly shooting when they discuss the city's growing violent crime problem. paul chambers joins us now from that scene. paul. >> reporter: good morning, pam.

we were right across the street from where the 66-year-old woman was shot and killed. last night the city came together to honor her. right now at this hour there are still candles burning just for her. also later this morning this is the same area where oakland city council community leaders gather for increased public safety. two days ago solomon was driving in the maxwell park area of oakland where she was shot and killed. solomon was picking up animals in the area for a -- >> we are just devastated. she is my only sister. and our mother died when judy was 17. it's been a tough life for her. >> reporter: solomon has been working with members of the community to bring private security to the area. members are outraged by the number of killings and say that

solomon's death is the final straw. and hope solomon didn't die in vain. >> i'm hoping if -- do more neighborhood watch and get the she also -- but they plan that news conference will happen in flee hours from now. new this morning a crash involving a taxi cab and suv is under investigation in san francisco. it happened at 10:40 last night on oak street. three people were inside the cab. one person in the suv. police say they are all expected to survive. a bay area credit union is replacing thousands of debt cards after a cyber attack on

the raley's super market chain. the credit union has reissued 17,000 cards so far. the credit union says there have already been 200 cases of fraud involving its card holders at the stores. time is 6:05. at 9:00 negotiations in the bart labor dispute will continue. but there are concerns that they won't be able to work out -- but we're told it would take thousand becauses. -- we're told it would take 8,000 customers. we just had a crew arrive on the scene. we're about to see pretty good

pictures from this crash. i see brian flores standing bring. i want to mention -- these are live pictures. brian is about to give us an update on to what is happening here. we will toss it to him in a moment. i want to mention there is other stuff going on before we get to that. i want to mention the traffic is effected by some other things. actually are we tossing to brian here? this is the bay bridge westbound. this is also a huge problem. you see in oakland a fire truck arriving there on this scene to the injury crash. westbound blocking two lanes of the bay bridge and traffic is quickly backing up at the toll plaza. i want to show you the traffic. this is not a good way to get into san francisco.

i want to mention will very, very good. let's go to steve. a lot of low clouds. around the bay. a cooler pattern is in place. a little weak upper low is coming up. most inland locations will be in the 80s verses the 90s. we will continue this cooler pattern. the delta breeze is really kicking up its heels. a lot of low clouds and fog. pretty good thunderstorm activity yesterday. tahoe and truckee and also into reno. things have calmed down. they may fire up one more day. look what is going on down in southern california from palm springs to southern california. los angeles has had rain. it's taking the turn toward southern san joaquin valley. coastal fog. cooler pattern. not only today but taking us into the weekend. it looks like into early next week. a lot of 50s on the temps

instead of 60s. and that west wind at travis at 25. there is a come important -- component of a westerly breeze. you can see there is plenty down there. if you have travel plans, you might encounter rain. for us breezy and cooler. after that morning overcast. some of that might be reluctant to burn back. it's pretty solid. r50s and 60s and -- 50s and 60s and 70s. you all probably have to wait another day. cooler into the weekend and it kind of holds right there as we go into early next week. all right we want to go back to that breaking news in vallejo that sal has been mentioning. a big rig overturned forcing an onramp to. >> reporter: traffic will be good. if you are heading southbound 19, eastbound 37 be warned this onramp will be closed for some

time. i want to show you right now the big rig that overturned. as you can see that right over there. rather large big rig as you can see cal tran crews pouring absorbent on the roadway. there was a fuel leak that came from this crash. for more on what happened, i want to bring in officer james. officer, good morning, to you. >> good morning opinion >> reporter: tell us what happened we had a from we'll shut it down. we'll shut it down for a little bit longer. we have additional chp units responding to help us with the closure. >> reporter: what can you tell us about the driver's condition? >> the driver was a blah tour when we got here. he was talking. he had minor laceration to his fore head. >> reporter: what do we know of what was inside the trailer and speed or alcohol any of those things a factor?

the ntsb as new information. take a look at this video. showing sparks flying as the plane skidded down the runway at la guardia airport in new york. investigators say it now appears there it is right there

the nose gear hit the runway before the mainlanding gear. that is the opposite of what is supposed to happen during a normal landing. sad for people visiting the capitol. the lincoln memorial is closed after someone vandalized it. kay hall campbell is in washington, d.c. right inside the memorial. what can you tell us what happened? >> reporter: pam, i did just speak to a national parks spokesperson. there is no set timetable as to when the park or rather the memorial could reopen. if you take a look behind me you can see where tourists are still here. there is police tape at the bottom of the stairs. you can also see some officers and park workers on the stairs. they just put up the barriers a short time ago. if you look past the barriers you can see some of the workers up there the cleaning crew showed up there 40 minutes ago with a pressure washer.

i do believe i hear the motor running on that right now. i do see people working on the floor. we know some of that green paint was splattered on the floor. you can see the close up of that green paint. we are talking to a lot of tourists out here. they are frustrated with the crime. >> you know it's obviously disappointing that someone would disrespect something that is for the public that much that they would degrade it and deface it. >> reporter: and also we got word a few minutes ago that the u.s. parks police will be giving a statement shortly. they are setting up a few feet away from me here. we don't know what time they will be speaking to us. of course we will have the very latest for you when we see you next hour. time now 6:1. here at home firefighters in contra costa county making sure a grass fire doesn't flair up again. 120 acres burned at the former naval weapons station.

it started around 1:00 yesterday. firefighters say it was hard to put out. winds reached about 35 miles an hour. part of the highway was shut down briefly. investigators say there is no obvious sign as to what started the fire but they say in the past fires have come from the brakes of trains that rolled through that area. tonight crews will spray for miskey tees in east san jose to stop the spread of west nile virus. that is just east of interstate 680. about a dozen dead birds found in santa clara county have tested positive for the virus. a couple mosquitoes were also infected. the fog like spray is not toxic to humans or pets. time now 6:19. sal is back. we have big problems around the toll plaza.

>> yeah we do have a big trouble spot. s injury crash is blocking the two left lanes. just after you get on the bridge. traffic is very slow. not only trying to get on the bridge but at the toll plaza as well. this happened about 30 minutes ago now. pardon me. and westbound traffic is going to be effected. you can still see oakland fire is on the scene along with medics. so this crash has been there for a bit. and let's take a look at the toll plaza westbound. it's barely moving here. i would not use the bay bridge unless you are a car pooler. see how the car pool lane is moving well. every other lane has stopped. we are also working a crash southbound 29 to eastbound 37. sonoma boulevard ramp is closed. we have live pictures of the scene for you. this truck flipped over just about 45 minutes to an hour ago now. and the traffic is not being allowed on this ramp from southbound sonoma boulevard to

eastbound 37. brian flores is there. he is giving us the updates. it will be awhile before this is cleared. let's go to steve. thank you, sal. a few low clouds. helped along by a weak area of low pressure. westerly breeze. inland areas will still be warm and some will be hot. a majority are onlying down. napa yesterday 88. 91 morgan hill. concord from 98 to 85. get a pretty good decent delta breeze or westerly breeze in place. mainly 50s. some low 60s. antioch being one. a little cooler as you go over 101 toward mountain view proper. a lot of low clouds and fog will be slow to burn off. southern california it's raining down there. especially l.a.. you can see a pretty good band

welcome back. 6:25. about half the teenage girls in the u.s. have received a controversial vaccine designed to protect them from a type of

cancer. the centers for disease control says a phone survey shows just 54% of girls received at least one dose of the three shot vaccine. it protects against virussing that can cause cervical cancer or genital warts. the sexually trance mitted virus is blamed for 26,000 cancers in the u.s. every year. many bars across the country are joining a boycott of russian vodkas. supporters say it's to protest against the recent government's antigay and lesbian move. stoli is the most popular. it's being pulled from shelves in the castro district. >> the owner called me and said we're taking down all the stoli. so we put it in the office. >> other bartenders say it's targeting a company not russian leaders. the stoli website has a letter from the ceo saying the company opposes the action of the russian government and supports the lbgt community.

we have major commute problems. where do we start? >> we do start with the bay bridge. westbound bay bridge as you go into san francisco. the two left lanes are closed on the incline. and the traffic is still -- well it looks like they are making some progress here. but there is still a little bit of a delay. there is a big delay coming up as you come up on the bay bridge. the backup at the toll plaza is monumental here because of the crash. i want to show you live pictures here on 37. this is the grant from sonoma boulevard. southbound 29 to eastbound 37. this big rig is trying to get this big rig back on the roads to open that ramp. but it won't be open until they do. we have another report coming up soon. now to steve. sal, we have a much bigger, stronger fog bank. that is moving locally inland. that means the cooler pattern starts today. it started a little more

they are making a u-turn and using the opposite ramp there. chp is guiding that operation. also we are looking at the bay bridge the incline section. it looks like they just cleared the crash. now that is good news. and if you can get me the toll plaza i want to show our viewers how terrible how hideous come up with anagetive on your own how --agetive on your own how terrible it is. 30 minute plus delay. getting ready to move a little bit but the damage is done. let's go back to the desk. we have an update to the breaking news we just reported an hour ago. a woman woke up to find a strange man with a box cutter over her. ktvu janine de la vega first reporter there on scene. and you have the very latest now on the police investigation. janine. >> reporter: yeah. and residents that live here are shaken. i just spoke to the victim's

neighbor's boyfriend. he told me that people leave the windows open here all the time. because there is no air conditioning in this apartment complex. it appears the intruder entered through a back window. they got a 911 call at 4:00 this morning a woman in her 20s had been sexually assaulted. she was sleeping and woke up to find an unknown man standing over her in bed. he held a box cutter to her neck and sexually assaulted her. there is evidence of forced entry. of a broken screen. officers believe this intruder exited the front door. the attack has neighbors on edge. >> it's a little scary. because i came home late last night and to think about having some men around lurking or breaking into apartments is extremely scary. i'm a single woman. i have a daughter. >> reporter: police are on the scene collecting evidence.

the victim is at a local hospital being evaluated. police plan on interviewing her further as well as her roommate who was sleeping during the assault. the suspect is still at large. the victim only gave a very vague description. so that is why they want to interview her over again to see if they can get more released to the media. but at this point again they are just here on scene investigating trying to see if they can collect any evidence to track down the suspect. reporting live janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. in a cop l hours oakland city leaders will remember the victim of a deadly shooting when they talk about oakland's growing violent crime problem. that is where a popular dog walker was killed this week. paul kim pers is at -- chambers is at at scene. >> reporter: good morning, dave. i will show you immediately right here.

metal rods causedment some injure safety concerns. there will be several safety reviews in the weeks ahead. it is still possible the new bay bridge could open by the labor day weekend as originally planned. 6:38 is the time. sal is covering a couple big problems. it looks awful. >> yeah, it's bad. we are looking at the crash in vallejo. because this truck overturned on southbound 2. which is sonoma boulevard. on the ramp to eastbound 37. if you're in the area, you know it's a big looping ramp. this truck did not make that turn. chp officer told flores who was on the scene. he thinks it could have been speed. and he told brian he doesn't think alcohol was involved. and here we go with the truck that is trying to pull this big rig and right it so they can get it out of the way. let's move along and take a look at the bay bridge approach. the injury crash has been cleared so you can clear that.

super. which is good. nice. but it is still a mess. it is just terrible at the bay bridge. today was supposed to be friday light. we'll see how long it takes for this to actually clear up. and if you are thinking about driving well this is the -- those are decent alternates right now. those bridges look good. let's go to steve. some of that low cloud is working its way inland. some areas haven't seen the fog. when i was down on the ground it was tough to make it that far inland. it will make a bigger push. pretty good thunderstorm activity in the sierra. it's raining in southern california. the message for us is a cooler pattern. napa 88. today 7. morgan hill. concord 9 -- 89 to 85. a lot of tropical clouds in

southern california. producing rain down -- 60s and 70s coast and bay. a little quieter there. big fog bank for us. we'll give way to that thunderstorm activity. reno really it will up. things will look south of tahoe today. the moisture source is definitely down there. moves in from arizona and goes in to palm spring. now taking the turn to southern san joaquin valley. for us temperatures heading down. inland temps not much change. 50s on the temps right now. temperatures have really cooled off. fairfield gets that westerly breeze. 52 in tahoe. 59 sacramento. that means breezy and cooler.

live update. in a couple hours oakland city leaders will hold a news conference. they will talk about oakland's growing violent crime program. it will be held at max well park neighborhood. that is where a popular dog walker was shot to death in broad daylight earlier this week. two people were taken to the hospital this morning after a high speed chase hours ago. this happened in martinez. the chp says police tried to pull over a car for reckless driving about 1:00 this morning. the driver led police on a chase on highway 4 and crashed. onramp to highway 37 in vallejo remains closed at this hour. a big rig did not make the curve and overturned. brian flores -- crews just got

her not too long ago. the front end where the passenger sits will be towed first. and they will remove the -- now crews are be here for so according the -- the beg was traveling on the onramp when it crashed. he may have been trying to take it a little too fast. chp shut down the onramp and it has been closed since then. he had minor lacerations to his head and complained of chest pain. >> we're not sure what is inside the trailer. the driver wasn't aware what he was transporting as well. >> we were not able to get into the cab as of yet to find the

transportation log as well. >> reporter: in terms of the bigger news southbound 29 is closed until further notice. traffic being detoured on to surface streets. if you basically want to get on eastbound 37 you kind of go down sonoma boulevard and make a natural u-turn. cal trans crews say they have spent the morning it was a very small we are also not clear what is inside the truck over there but cal tran is not too concerned about it. sal, i have been hearing the traffic reports this morning. it does not sound like friday light. >> no, it doesn't. there is the crash that you are standing near. and also there is a crash at the bay bridge that was cleared about 20 minutes ago. westbound. it was on the incline section.

i want to show you what we have here when it comes to back up at the mccarthur maze. there is a huge backup because of the crash that has been cleared. and that is because the lanes were taken up for quite awhile. we have a long way to go before you get into san francisco. it will be a big back up. the only bright spot is if it is lighter than usual volume, this will clear up quicker than it would on a monday and fall. but it's still very, very slow. we are thinking about it. we are talking about 30 minute plus delays at the bay bridge toll plaza because of the accident. bay bridge toll plaza itself is okay. this is a look at the san mateo bridge if you are driving out to the high-rise. did i say bay bridge toll plaza is okay? i didn't mean that. it is slow. however the sun bar don bridge is okay. i will say that. we also checked in woman bart. bart is doing well. now to steve. thank you, sal. now a very good morning. a few high clouds. overall it's low clouds.

a pretty good sea breeze kicking in for many. area of low clouds and fog being helped along. bigger fog bank making a stronger push inland. 50s on the temps. fairfield 55. gusts to 55 miles an hour. that delta breeze is turbo charged. 53 san rafael. 53 santa rosa. a little warmer san jose. temperatures in the 50s for most. you can see a lot of low clouds there. thunderstorm activity has qumeed down. still very muggy. what is that? did i get a cue from producers? palm spring has rain. for us it's a cooler pattern ahead. coastal fog. still warm to hot. well, well inland. the trend is to take the temperatures down. so breezy and cooler. sunny and warm inland. but not as warm as the last couple of days. still 80s and 90s. some of the locations will continue to drop as we head toward the weekend. pam and dave. >> thank you, steve.

that is two tons of garlic. i'm joined by doug stewart. they will feed about 100,000 people today. what kind of under taking is it to feed that many people over the three-day weekend? >> well, we started here on sunday morning and we've been working 10-12 hour days. takes about 40 of us to set up the alley in a week. and will take about 3,000 volunteers to feed that many people. >> reporter: just a huge under taking. talk about the different types of food you have here and keeping it cool. seafood and gourmet food that will have to stay cool. >> yeah we have three trailers that basically control our temperatures to keep everything nice and cold. we are good with that. and we've got ten items that we serve in gourmet alley. we have our scampi, our squid that we will have fried calamari with. garlic bread and fries.

welcome back. time now 6:55. the same law firm that sued pg&e over the san bruno pipeline disaster will be taking on the chevron richmond refinery fire. that fire sent toxic smoke into the air last august about 16,000 people sought medical treatment as a result. now the city of richmond has hired a law firm from burlingame to seek damages from that fire. chevron says the city's decision to sue doesn't change the company's commitment to economic development in richmond. bay area lawmaker is rallying support for city college of san francisco which is losing students and facing

closure. san francisco assembly men phil joined the ccsf board of trustees yesterday. he said students should keep enrolling in classes while the school tries to keep its accreditation. the college has seen a drop in enrollment after it was said they could lose their accreditation. a former uc davis police officer involved in a pepper spray incident two years ago is seeking compensation for psychiatric disstress. he received numerous threats after being identified as the officer who pepper sprayed protestors on the ground. his case is scheduled to be heard in sacramento next month. time now 6:57. sal, you are watching the mccarthur maze. big problems this morning. >> yeah we had a crash about 45 minutes ago. cleared now. westbound bay bridge big backup before you get to the toll plaza. it is getting better slowly.
